More specifically, South American cichlids? I had a Jellybean Parrot pair that successfully spawned about 5-6 times. The fry always got eaten by others in the tank. Recently I added new fish to their home, and the tank crashed. I woke up to half of the tank dead. Nitrates went from 20 to 120. The female JBP died. I went out and got a new female. Will the male spawn with this new female? They haven't seem to have paired up yet, but it's only been two days. They are part convict, so if your convicts have switched partners as well let me know. Thanks.

Hey haywood,

I would think so, I had a pair of convicts where the female was killed. I then bought another female thinking it is worth a shot and within a few days I had eggs.

So going off that experience I think it is very possible, you may just have to be patient.

However I am no expert on the matter.

i would say that it definitely does depend on the individual personality of the fish, but i would say that it's possible. how old is he?
