Lots of BD hybrids or black rays out there these days , and the base color is just everywhere ( grey/ brownish) and just curious on if in general most turn black in the end? i know of course it depends on the parents and etc but just generally speaking . Would i be expecting BD hybirds to most likely have more of a black base over time? i know the yellowing on spots are more a gamble and even some fully mature still have yellow spotting. But i never seen a fully mature BD hybird with a grey/ brownish base.

For the most part yes. Typically black base is the most prevalent. Even when mixing black and brown rays the offspring typically are black based. Those genes are generally much stronger.

But it does depend on the hybrid mix, I've seen a lot of hybrids lately which end up being grey/brown, or a light black.

For example, From one litter from same parents on a marble Motoro and Leo, I have seen some rays completely different patterns and colours so guess depends on which one you get.

anyone possibly have a pic of their hybrids that didn't turn completely black when matured?would be interesting to see

You may also find that a lot of the hybrids end up with messy spots which aren't a as defined, the market in the UK is flooded with them atm.

yes i have noticed some hybrids out there that have more yellowish spotting and more messy looking when mature but i guess it just depends on the buyers eye if they like the fish or not.

Here’s about 3 weeks difference in mine. They do get blacker over time. He was pale white when I first got him. Gets real real black when scared and spots are slowly turning whiter, he’s BD x Motoro

I have a BD hybrid that base got darker but some reason the spots started to get more brown/ yelloiwsh. Any certain reason behind this? or maybe just the genetics kicking in?
