I have a bunch of ghost shrimp in my planted tank that I bought a while back while I was waiting for my lfs to get some red cherry shrimp and crystal red shrimp in. They finally got them in and now the owner of the shop is warning me that the ghost shrimp will kill the RCS and CRS if I put them in together. Does anyone have any incite into this? If need be I guess I can attempt to get the ghost shrimp out but I'll prolly have to rip apart my tank to get them all so i would REALLY prefer not to. I'm very excited to get some reds in there but I don't want subject them to a quick death..lol

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have never had a problem with the palaemonetes (ghost) shrimp killing any thing, not even fairy shrimp, I have had them eaten by scuds though.

OK cool...I found it hard to believe myself since mine dont bother anything but I figured I would consult some experts since this guy is losing out on money by me not buying them off of him. He seemed very sincere about it.

Thanks for your help guppy!

I have heard that they can be cannibalistic, I suspect of newly born shrimp. But I can't imagine they would harm adult CRS or RCS.

My ghost shrimp play nice with each other.... well until my JD finds them for lunch.

Ya actually I just picked up a bunch of baby neons yesterday and threw them in the 125g and I noticed that the Ghost Shrimp were chomping on a few of them. Today when I got home I was down to 9 neons from 19 last night. All the neons looked pretty healthy last night too. The RCS and CRS at my lfs are pretty small. maybe I will try and grow them out in a different tank first b4 I take the gamble. Thanks!

I dont know but it planned to get some in put in my 29 gal planted myself and see if i could get them to breed i use to feed them to my oscars when they were shortys.

I added ghost shrimp to my tanks as part of the cleaner crew, they make good scavangers (my opinion) but I've also seen them catch small fish when they can and eat them. (babie guppies, platies, etc....)

My ghost shrimp only get aggressive when they have eggs. When they hatch, everything goes back to normal except for the tiny ghost shrimp stuck under my gravel. lol.
