I was interested in getting a giant redtail gourami but I was worried if it would eat my big bunches of java fern. I heard that they eat plants but I also know that a lot of fish wont eat java fern. What do you guys think?
Dang, that sucks. Thanks for the info. Anyone else have any experience with this? I really want to get one but it took me a long time to grow out those java fern in my discus tank. I dont want it to just turn out being a snack
and cats mice rats small children...whatever will fit in the tank. Seriously though, these fish are not for planted tanks. Mine is in a 5x3x3 with boulders and large river pebbles. Oddly enough she doesnt like feeder fish, although her tankmate - a 10 inch longfinned eel does. Nothing so interesting as watching an eel stalk fish bigger than its mouth and swallow it.
There was one at an LFS here that was so huge but it was in a tank with fish that were so small! It was awesome. Maybe the fish were too fast or maybe they were just not worth its time. And it was so tame! You could hand feed it and pet it and everything! That made me want one so bad. Oh well... guess I will have to wait for another tank.
