So this morning, I'm sitting at my computer and i hear this quiet screeching sound. I couldn't figure out what it was, I've never heard anything like it before! So I'm looking around and i find my crawfish out of the tank and on my floor under a box!

I have no idea how long he was there but I put him in the tank as fast as I could but now he is all moving slow and just all jittery. Is he going to get back to his old self?

Also, do you think he will remember what happens when he crawls out of the tiny space in the lid or do I need to find a way to cover the gap between my filter and the lid?

he could be all right so long as he didn't fall...staying out of water wouldn't affect as much as a long drop. and you better close up the hole. they're not the smartest animals lol

They are great climbers and it doesn't take long for them to realize they are captive, meaning they WILL look for a way out.

Even though they have gills they can survive out of water for surprising amounts of time.
Get some turbidity, or churning, at the surface...or any other way you can infuse your water with high amounts of oxygen.Lower you water lever, add an airstone, powerhead or other internal device that has a venturi/venturi like function.

Should be all right, most of them walk on land quite a bit.

Yes, this makes perfect sense - I've encountered crayfish FAR from water venturing out from their holes near my home. Of course, there is a water table that they burrow down to, but being out of water for an extended period should be ok.

As far as the fall is concerned: I have woken up to this same scenario - only the crayfish crawled out of the tank, fell down about a 4' stand, crawled down a flight of stairs and into a downstairs bathroom & was still fine.

he seems to be fine, back to his old hunting routine lol

ive got 2 air stones in the tank, a 12" and a bubble sphere thing so air is good. Now im just hoping that he doesn't do it while im gone for the next 9 days o.O

He'll be fine. They can survive as long as their gills are wet, and the gill chambers of a crayfish are designed to stay wet for a long time. They could spend several hours out of water and be fine.

Wow...sorry for the late reply. This is a great little adventure this spineless creature had!
Reminds me of when a musk turtle of mine I had escaped (learned from that) and was slapped around like a hockey puck a WEEK (read. 7 days) later by my black cat.So, in essence, my bad luck symbol gave good luck to a life form considered dead already.
This turtle continues to beg for food till this day.
