I have a 14" Protopterus dolloi. i have a tank for him but i would like to put him in my bigger one. will he eat the other fish. they range from 5" to 10". oh and what is a good thing to feed this guy and how fast will he grow. Is this a rare lung fish or a more common. I also have 6" Protopterus aethiopicus congicus. anyone ever had this one. could i put him with the big one, prob not. but i have seen pics of peoples lungfish with other smaller fish and smaller lung fish but not the kind i have

IME, if it fits in their mouth, it's food. Also, they kick the hell out of one another.

I wouldn't combine even the 6" specimen with anything less than a 10"+ tankmate.

I don't know what differentiates the 2 species, but I have cared for them in my employ at our LFS and found the above to be true.

Good luck,
/Kris

I've never been able to mix any african lungfish species with other fish. Even fish too large for a LF to eat can have chunks easily taken out of it. Most recently, I had a foot-long mbu puffer eaten by a 20" aethiopicus that's 1/2 the girth of the puffer.
The only lungfish species I've had luck mixing in a community set up are the australian lungfish (Neoceratodus fosteri) and the south american lungfish (Lepidosiren paradoxa)

My 24"annectens is very peaceful, all of its tankmates are smaller and except for shiny, silver fish like silver dollars and my unfortunate 12" payara (all I found was the head) he leaves them alone. However I once tried adding an equal sized dolloi, and man, what a battle. It was like watching bull elephant seals fight....
