Will I Be Able to Keep a 12" Midas Together With a 12" Umbee?

I'd say yes, but with a tank 150 gallons or larger to insure that neither go all evil on the other and kill it. I'd watch them for a few days though if you put them together.
well I'm gonna disagree and say no, especially if the umbie is a male. male umbies can grow up to 20-24" and are extremely aggressive. they've been known to dominate tanks as large as 300 gallons without allowing tankmates so you'd need something huge to attempt keeping one with a midas. now, if the umbie is female it won't grow as large and may or may not be as aggressive but I still think you'd need a huge tank to keep one with a fish as aggressive as a midas.

The problem with umbies and dovii are that they are cichlid eaters they just do what comes naturally. Their territory often extends well outside of even the largest aquarium. I have seen crazier things happen but it would be a costly gamble.

My juvie umbee (~6") is a big pussy. I think a 12" midas will take out a 12" umbee because a 12" midas is already fully grown while the umbee is not.
Maybe if you had like a 1000 gal tank,but i wouldnt do it,Umbees are real badasses and Midas can be real aggressive too!!!
The only certainty in fish keeping is nothing is for certain. A VERY aggressive midas MAY be able to cohabit with a DOCILE Full grown Umbee. Most cichlids in the lakes have a territory that they stake out all my reading on Umbees and Dovii suggests that they Cruise around looking for other cichlids to eat. When that Umbee gets full size your red devil will most likely look like lunch. I would agree that the more similar the size of the fish the more the Devil would gain the upper hand. In the end it is all a gamble on the temperament of the individual fish you get IMO.
