Hi All,

Need to get rid of my 125 gallon tank on my first floor due to some remodeling and won't be putting it back up after the remodel. Moving the tank to my basement is a no-go since the stair landing makes a quick 90 degree turn (impossible to bring down there).

Sooooo, I've been thinking of 55 gallon since a LFS has their $1 per gallon sale right now (up to 55 gallon).

Here's my question: Will my Rokteil breeding pair, 3 Red Head Tapajo, 5 Roseline Sharks, and Angel Fish pair be ok in a 55 gallon tank? Or will I be overstock? Or too much aggression?

Thanks!

I think that'll be pretty tight in a 55, just a lot of bioload if/when all those fish get to full size. You would be much better off with a 75 or 90, if you could get one of those instead of the 55. They are easy to find on craigslist used for cheap.

I think that's too many fish, even if the tank is overfiltered.

The Red Heads and Roselines should probably be re-homed. Roseline sharks are super-active and in my opinion, should only be kept in groups and in at least a 6 foot tank. If you went with a 75 instead of a 55, you may be able to keep the Tapajos.

I think the pair of Severums should be fine in there with some other dithers, and if they aren't too terribly aggressive, the Angelfish may work out - but I'd keep an eye on them andbe prepared to separate the Angelfish should the Severums start going after her.

You can't stand the tank on end to get around the landing? A 125 is not horribly heavy like other 6ft tanks, I would think if you can walk down the stairs that you can get the tank down there. Otherwise you'll have to trim your stock down quite a bit.

Actually, I have brought a 125G into the basement and back out once before ... and it was terrible. I swore I would never do it again. I guess I might be doing that again.

If I were to do a 55 gallon, and the Rokteil pair were a must, could I keep them with the Roselines and Angelfish pair? In other words, get rid of the Geos. Or is it still overstocked? Would a 75g make much difference?

Sorry for all the questions.

Problem with roselines is they are very quick and somewhat large. With 2 decent size cichlids in there, they just won't have room to maneuver. A 75 while slightly better still pretty cramped. I love roselines, wish I could afford to get them again but all the lfs near me want 20-25$ a fish.

I believe, while only 20 gallons difference, the 18" width of 75 gallons makes them substantially better than 55 gallons.
