I have noticed my red tail shark's dorsal fin is split, he is nice and healthy looking other wise, water is good Amm 0 nitrite 0 and nitrate 40. I have seen him get into a scuffle every now and then with Pyro my Rainbow shark, and yes I know they shouldn't be kept together.

However they have been together since they where both about 1 inch and are now about 3 inchs, and I don't see them fight very often, not even once a week.

I had a bala shark that had a split fin but it was the fin on the bottom closer to his head, and it healed after a few months. do you think if I moved the red tail to my 10 gallon guppy tank for a month so he would be king of the roost, it would heal?

i had a red tail like that, his healed, although he killed the other two. but yeah it'll heal lol

Split fins heal the majority of the time...it's when a ray is damaged that you worry about sometimes. Depending on the damage on them, they may not grow back.

a ray?

If you look at it's fins, the "spines" of the fins.
