Ok so I have the chance to buy 600lbs of live rock that has been dormant for 18 months sitting in boxes and bags is it worth $50 for all of it and can it come back to life? If so how long will it take?

Live rock is rock taken from the ocean or a seed tank which has life growing on/in it

I would assume after 24-48 hours out of water it would become dead rock (tho wrapping it in news paper does extend its life)

HOWEVER, dead live rock, could become live aslong as you did have some live rock to seed it...it would just take longer. personally id buy it...use it as the base for a few tanks, and buy some fresh live rock for the top/outerside

:WHOA:
Thats a steal! Even for normal, dead rock!

any special additives that might add to the growth?

I guess you could add nitrate, although I don't know where you'd get any, other than letting your tank cycle.

Raw, uncooked and unfrozen shrimp/prawns/scallops will aid in cycling to tank and help the denitrifying bacteria populate. Just don't over do it. You can add Purple UP! or 2 part B-Ionic calcium to help aid in the coraline growth.

that is an INSANE price, definetely get it, then just add purple up, copepods, and amphipods and you're set

a piece of raw shrimp in pantyhose can start the cycle

That's what you call plain old rock.

$50 bucks for 600 pounds of rock is a good deal if it is typical reef base rocks that is pourous.

No it will not come back to life on it's own. You can "seed" it with actual live rock though. It will take some time to do so but it can happen given enough time.
