Hi all, I recently got myself a pair of motoros. The Male 7'' and the female 9'' DW and was wondering if they would breed in the tank I have them in.The tankmates are a 20'' Green Aro, 20'' ID Shark, 20'' Giant Grey Gourami, 12'' Endli Bichir, 16'' Gold Clownknife, 3 x 14'' Peacock Bass, 5'' Uaru and 3 x 5'' Red Parrots. The Tank is an 8x2x2 with a 3'x18''x18'' Mini reef (loaded with 1500 bio balls and running a UV Filter) and I do weekly 25% water changes.Your guys input would be much appreciated. Thanks

They both need to mature, it is not essentially about size but maturity.

The males claspers will become longer to indicate he is mature.

Keep the water quality up and feed a varied diet and nature will do the rest but it may be a year from now or more.

2ft wide (front to back) will probably not be enough for their life.

Cheers, I'll have to upgrade tank size in the future. Do the parents protect the pups after birth?

They do not protect them as such but they are generally not known to harm them. That said most people seem to move the pups out of the tank but use the same water as the tank they came from and on to other mature filters.

Many people see to favour a bare bottom for the pups at first so that they can see any missed food and keep the bottom as clean as possible.

I know that some people just leave the pups in the main tank and let them get on with it, I expect they would copy the parents in their feeding behaviour but you need to make sure the pups get enough food.

Thanks for the advice...much appreciated. I was just worried if the female gave birth when I wasnt home that the other fish would kill the pups.
