i have sand in my tank and i want to prevent the formation of anaerobic bacteria which will release toxins. Malaysian trumpet snails would be perfect and they would clean up nicely, but im worried about them prodding and hurting my bichirs because of theyre conical shell. what do u think? also, would the bichirs eat the mts? would they eat any snails for that matter? i have a surplus of rams horns that would be a good treat if they actually ate them

They eat my pond snails when I have to many I just dump them into my bichir tank I am not sure of the other ones .

pond snails are ramshorns are prety similar so ill try it. i realy want to find out about the mts tho

i know theyre not to keen bout messing around with snails, but that won't stop the two from interacting. mts reproduce rapidly, and they burrow in the substrate, which worries me because bichirs sit on the botom most of the time and there would b tons of pointy little snails crawling under them. i just want to find out if the snails pose any real threat to bichirs when they swim along the bottom, possibly getting scratched or poked by the snails.

My Poly tank with a sand bottom has a small population of MTS. My Polys are healthy and I've never seen a snail attached to one.

I have a huge population of MTS in my 90 (4" sand bed with 40lbs of eco-complete mixed into it and heavy feeding...they breed worse than rabbits) and they don't affect any of my poly's or any other fish for that matter.

You'll be fine man.

i keep snails to clean my tank with bichirs in there. They actually been breeding and producing more with the bichirs. Its like they follow around the bichir slowly to clean up left over foods

I have a tank with 2 bichirs in it and thousands (literally) of MTS in it. They do nothing to the bichirs nor vice versa.

awesome good to know :) just figured the snails might act like gravel and be hazardous to the bichirs but i guess not
