This just came to mind. What are the chances of my black kuhli loaches being too busy burrowing in my tank's new sand substrate to notice that it's feeding time?
I fear that, given the size of the tank and the depth of the sand, this could happen enough to starve them.

I find my java loaches never actually bury themselves in the sand unless they're startled pretty bad. Even if yours do go into the sand I wouldn't worry about them letting themselves starve down there unless they're already sick.

With kuhli loaches you don't need to worry about them starving. They'll be the last things to starve in a tank. As mentioned, they won't starve unless a disease or parasite causes it to. Main thing I've learned to look for, with kuhli loaches atleast, is ick. This seems to be the worst/most common problem I find with em. Since they have incredibly tiny scales they get ick very quickly and easily compared to allot of other fish. This can also be somewhat difficult to deal with as well, atleast if ya have shrimp or snails, mostly because loaches tend to like cooler temps and the chemical treatments tend to be toxic to shrimp and snails.

Thank you both AngryRainbow and Magnus_Bane, for your input. I haven't had any whitespot issues either for the >3 years I had them, probably because the tank is set at 29 degrees which is too warm for whitespot.
