I have the green terror and the blue acara that have bred. And I wanted to take out the fry and put them in some smaller rubbermaid tanks. I was wondering if the parents will like freak out and like blame each other and kill each other. Which would make me very upset.:(

Or will they just keeping breeding and etc. I alread took about 20ish out now out of like 100. They didn't care just was wondering what they would do if i take them all out thanx.

They will get over it but you're lucky...if it was midas or jags they'd probably bite you when you took them.

Imagine if it was dovii? :)

The terror already thinks that when i'm feeding it that i'm just go to like steal a random fry, lol. I put in the flakes or whatever and he waits till i move away then darts up and eat then watches his fry again, lol. Paranoid, but that's good, I'd rather him protect his fry, I mean it his kids who wouldn't protect their own kids, even if there are a hundred or so always around him, lol.

It's cool watching cichlid parents, I've only bred dempsey's and angels and even the angels were good parents though they have a bad rep for eating eggs and fry (I think it's because of all the line breeding in angels, kills their parental instincts maybe).

It can cause friction with a pair to remove their fry. Their aggression levels and hormones are still pumping, and they can misdirect their aggression on each other. I like to leave just a few fry witn the parents.

I always leave 20 or so fry for the parents to raise for 2-3 weeks. This way the male won't run the female to death trying to spawn again. After 3 weeks she'll be ready so then you can pull the rest of the fry.

You probably want to move this to hybrids, but yeah, they're gonna hit you. They'll be fine, though.

Why? the question is regarding the parents not the fry.

Most convict females are killed in the first few days after removing all the fry. Not sure if the acaras will follow suite or not though.

Because it's been a recurring topic, that's all (this pair and their fry). A few threads about them in this forum that should generally be in hybrids. Just trying to save him the flaming-to-come later.
