i just bought a fire eel at my LFS at about 8"...once in a while i catch him trying to swim up my cannister filters out pipe...so far he hasn't succeeded but i'm afraid he might hurt himself...anyone else seem something like this??
Fire eels like to go into tubes, wood, rockwork, gravel and just about any other tight fit. Offer him some other hiding spots and he will probably stop. I have had them completely dig up and go under tank dividers. Gotta watch out they are tricky.
thanks for the input...i have 2 pieces of large driftwood and a rock that i can push against a wall of the tank to make another cave...he seems to have lost interest in rushing up the out pipe...does pvc pipe under a driftwood make a significant difference???my eel does go under my driftwood just wondering if he would feel safer with a tighter squeeze...
