Hey all

I have a super nice and friendly fire eel. He is about 18 inches long.....SUPER FAT.

He eats absolutely everything. I wanted to put him in my 180. I plan to have some severums, earth eaters, and two small rays.

Now he is in a 90 with some severum, and i can kinda control how much he eats.

I am worried that he will eat himself to death in the big tank as there will be more fish and more food available. He has eaten so much he has been upside down inside of his tube.

Anyone have a FE that ate himself to death? Am i just crazy?

Thx

Eddie

I wish my fire eel had such a robust appetite. It would only eat live black worms.. ...but then,it wasn't eighteen inches.

I sometimes wonder the same about mine, he is 2 ft and super fat. I have to get him to stuff his mouth just to get food down to my ray now, the ray has had to learn to be quick and pounce on the food and the Eel still tries to get under her disc to steal food.

I don't know if they would get obease or not.

My 18" fire eel regularly eats until the food is literally hanging out of its mouth because it won't fit in its stomach. At that point, it stops eating. I've never had a problem with it.

I had a 30 incher, never did give him a chance to overeat, but I would often see him in his tube hanging out upsidedown.

I will get a pic of mine up, I measured him with a tape yesterday as he was resting nicely against the glass, he is 25 inches and growing fast. He is pretty fat
