I currently have six discus in a 125gal tank and have been wanting to add a few Heckelii. The other day I found a few grow outs at a good price and decided to go ahead and purchase them. My tank is currently set at 87 for the discus.....Will this be ok for the Heckelii or will they not grow out to a max potential due to the higher than normal temp? Both heaters are located in the sump and are not at all easy to get to so I would prefer to not have to lower the tank temp if at all possible.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

According to the S American Eartheaters by Thomas Weidner, temps of 95'F bring heckelli into spawning condition, and temps of 82'F-86'F are normal rainy season conditions in their home waters.

according to everything ive read is they like to be 80 to 86 degrees and prefer to be towards the upper end of that scale.

IMO the temperament is more of a concern than the temperature. A. heckelii tend to be medium-aggressive and they get pretty large, so I don't know if they will make good discus tankmates long-term.
