I have a JD who is about 3" long and he eats a lot. I usually feed him 2 meal worms so that he will be chewing on those while I feed my other fish blood worms. as soon as he is done he comes to the surface and bullies everyone else and eats their food. I am afriad to give him more meal worms cause I dont want to over feed him. He just wont get full like my oscars used to. what should I do?

At such a young age and small size it is best to feed more than you would an adult. This helps promote healthy growth and development. You should also feed other things like pellets because mealworms and bloodoworms make a better treat than staple diet, they lack a lot of what a fish needs.

When cichlids, such as, Jack Dempseys, will eat a lot when young. As mine grew...he seemed to be less hungry and usually will wait until everyone else is full before he ate anything.

Big appetites when young are normal.

yeah I feed them pellets too, cichlid gold to be exact. he likes those too. Thanks for the advice people it really helped.

mine was like that for a while. hes going through a phase, now he eats last. :)

Yeah younger cichlids need to be fead more often than adults.
like humans, babies need to feed every couple of hours resulting in more meals than an adult.

Good to hear guys.....My little JD is a puffer fish right now and I thought it was some bloating disease. Turns out he just ate too much. The stomach is starting to go down.
