Long story short the girlfriend surprises me with a "cute" fish on wed, turns out it's a juvi mana about an inch long (the guy at the LFS said there were orignally 4, he killed the other 3). She said he'd do well with my 3 juvi JD's who are currently in a 30G grow out that are about 2-3". I rearranged the decor but as soon as I introduced him into the tank he immediately guns for the biggest JD's cave (of course getting his @$$ handed to him). He kept trying this for the first day or so but he's calmed down now and sticks to his own cave. My question is will sticking him in with bigger fish that can push him around now turn him into a wuss later (really hoping the answer is no) or will he still be the dog of the tank when older (this is what I'm assuming since he'll probably be the biggest fish). I really wasn't planning on getting a mana so I don't know what to expect of him. Btw he only cost her $7 lol.

Edit: Just realized most of the fish now I didn't even plan on having/buying :nilly:

aww cute looks like mine neways umm not true as they grow they get stronger both of mine used to get bullied hardcore by a pike cichlid and then the pike choked and died on a rosey and now they are gettin meaner. 1 is the boss of the tank now

I believe Jaguar Cichlids have the same personality of a Red Devil, shy but very aggressive. They will hide and be separate from the rest of the fishes in the tank but once grown it will pretty much dominate.

At first my male was pretty shy and just stayed to himself, barely ate just hanged around one corner by himself. Now hes cruising around my tank chasing my Convict and Firemouths around and scavenging the bottom for left overs.

Yeah nvm I'm starting to think he's going to be overly agressive. He's already punked the smaller of the 3 larger JD's and is flaring his gills at the largest trying to take its cave haha.

Sadly I think I might have to. Even though I'm getting the 150 (finally) it probably won't be enough room and I think there's a possiblity that he'd destroy the other fish when he gets a bit bigger. I'll give him a chance and see how it turns out.

he could be a she its really to small to tell, i would hold onto it for a while longer as long as no serious damage is being done

i'd keep it forsure.
jags are usually pretty aggressive.
they may not show it til they are the size of the other fish
or somewhat close though.
he'll get beat for a while but i think eventually he'll run the jd tank.

I'm not worried at all anymore about him becoming a wuss actually. He just punked the second biggest JD today for its cave haha. All he's got to do now is beat down the biggest and he'll be king of the tank. I'm hoping to keep em in here for at least another 2 months until we set up the 150 in the living room, let's just hope he doesn't get too crazy. Here's a pic of their tiny 30G grow out to give you an idea. It's funny because they're all extremely skittish and huddle together when the tank light is on but thats probably because they've been in this tank for only a week.

Jags are way cooler than JD's IMO and I'd keep him before the Jacks. He should be fine in a 150 with the JD tankmate though when grown. My Jag rules the tank but doesn't constantly try to kill the other fish, he just let's them know who's boss and as long as they respect that....no problems.
