With my 5 inches Oscar was a 1 inch or a little over Leopard Ctenopoma / Leopard Climbing Perch / Leopard Gourami / Bushfish. So you get the idea that the Leopard fish isn't slender but large.
One day after returning from College, I went to greet my Oscar and to feed him. But he was nowhere to be seen, I waved my hand, knocked gently at the tank glass...he was nowhere to be seen..
..I knew he was under the bogwood but why wasn't he coming out?
My Oscar is active, playing around, rushing to me whenever he sees me, eagerly begging for food, jumping to my fingers, biting and taking food from my hand..just awesome. But this time I didn't see him..until..I saw his head coming out from under the bogwood and I was shocked to witness him with the Leopard fish in his mouth. Half body in, half body out.
The night came, he was still forcing himself to eat the Leopard fish. I sometimes wondered if the fish is caught around his jaws that I should rescue him. I called for my Oscar, he moved away...and shook his mouth pretty much convincing me that he wanted to eat. Still it was just too big, I worried if it would choke him...the following day arrived, he was still holding the Leopard fish..except this time only the tail was visible from his mouth, which means this never giving up Oscar is successfully eating this Leopard fish...amazing, something I thought he couldn't do in the first place.
The night has arrived now, and I saw the Leopard fish's carcass laying at one side with my Oscar's mouth still wide opened..
...to have positioned his mouth that way for that long has left his mouth opened...he just came to me, I tried to feed him pellets, he tried to bite it..he did but couldn't do it properly and ate half of it. His most favourite, tiny mealworm..he couldn't eat at all..the mealworm was just falling off from his mouth...it will close back wouldn't it? I know it would..it should be..but I just wanted to share. He must have learned a lesson, so have I...
The left Leopard fish is almost half eaten.
