Hello everyone.... The Convicts I recently adopted from my neighbour have spawned today! My first egglayers since a pair of Angels when I was a kid.
Had over twenty juvenile cons and a few adults in the tank for about a fortnight, and I was starting to understand which ones were male and which were female, but they beat me to it!
What I want to know is this...I'm currently filtering with an internal Fluval 3. Will I need to switch to a sponge filter to prevent the fry getting sucked up?
Any other advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

wrap some old panty hose from your mom or wife around the intake....

I'll persuade my fiancee to lend me her stockings....hehe!:naughty:

be sure to have some fun in the process...

On a more serious note, I take it that's a yes...It WILL suck the fry in? So either put something on the intakes or change to a sponge filter then? Just wanted to check before going out and spending MORE money...

good chance the filter will suck in the fry but that panty hose does sound like a good idea i never thought of that i used an old brine fish net i had and tore it from the net handle and wraped it like you would the pantyhose...panty how sounds a lil more fun to get ...

I have a fulval 2+ on my 10g, and the 4days old fry liked to swim alover the filter and hid in in slits in the filters and ambush their fellow bros and sisters. But i would say either get some panty hoes, or one of those bags that you put filter media in and wrap it in that, just to be safe.

I wouldnt just pull the power filter out and put in a new sponge, the sponge wont be cycled. You could use the pantyhose idea and put in a sponge filter and in about 6 weeks you can take out the power filter

my convicts had babies and the convicts territory is next to the intake and i never saw them get sucked up ive watched them for hours and they never got sucked up from what i saw they were fast enough to dart away from it when they were being pulled in so idk
