I have read that Retics will eat snails in the wild, but what about in captivity? Are there certain types they will eat and certain ones they won't bother? Can they be used as a food source?

All my rays wipe out snails. I have a 65 loaded with malaysian trumpet snails. Started with a few and now I have thousands. I have tried to get them into ray tanks because they are great at taking care of waste and keeping sand turned over, but they eat them all. Now I will dump some in every now and then to let them hunt. Cool watching them blow sand around to find them.

Most creatures can carry parasites .

Snails are a delicacy to almost everything that eats them.rays love em
Mixed with Cheddar and garlic butter :)

Is there anything I could use to free them of parasites if they have any? If I set up a tank full of snails, can I treat them with something that will kill any parasites?

LOL awesome!

Anything that kills parasites will prob kill snails. Best way is to culture them yourself. Snail parasites usually require another host to make it back to the snail. Snails are usually the intermediate host.

You know ..... Snails are actually pretty hard to remove. I've had a growing colony in all my tanks for two years now. I've prazied them I've used flubendazole on them and they are still alive. I think praziqauntel maybe usefull but might kill some of the snails but in my experience I don't think.

I worked at petsmart a long time ago. They had a snail problem in their system, normal little pond snails that came in on plants most likely. They were so bad they would clog up the lines and cause tank overflows. The manger put 200 pennies in a bag and dropped it in the sump. That did the trick. Small amount of copper ions always kills inverts. I once had a client lose a 240 reef tank because of a single penny his kid threw in. if you wanna kill them get some cooper from fish store used to treat parasitic infections for saltwater fish, or a stingray, they work for me.
