Will salt water/reef lights harm my cichlids?

I don't think actinic lights hurt anything, but looks funny.

I don't think you guys understand what he's talking about.

he was vague tho, so its up to interpretation, but im sure he's talking about the strength of the light, not it's color. My 10 gallon reef had a 150watt Metal Halide light on it, for example.

I like to tell you, sometimes very strong lights affect salt water fish as well, temporary could be alright but give them plenty to hide under.

To touch on Actinic lights in reef tanks... Actinic lights do nothing for corals, they dont give it the light needed to keep it healthy and alive, all they do is bring out things colors. Its an accent used with usually many, many other lights. Unless its a FISH only setup, in which case its fine, it brings out color.

Its like the crust on a Pie. Its just there to make things look right.

You dont understand, I bought normal 36 inch strip lights used, the previous owner used them on a salt water or reef tank. The lights still have the bulb in them for sw/reef. will these BULBS harm my cichlids?

How the hell would bulbs harm your cichlids ? Its just light, the only difference is the light for reefs is INTENSE / Strong because corals use the light to grow...

If you weren't suggesting that the intense lights would damage your fish, i have no idea what you're concerned about...

To just answer the question. No, they wont.

To ask you a question, please id REALLY like to know.... how in the HELL would "BULBS" hurt your fish ????
