I have 3 Oscars I got last night. Might call it a rescue. i call it doing what I can to get free fish. A woman contacted me and asked me to come get them. She had them in a 29g.
Anyway, I am definately keeping one. The other 2 I'm undecided. The keeper has scars on one side, He is only 5" while the other 2 are 8" and they were all raised in a 29g. So, I'm not sure if he was picked on by the bigger O's or if he just was banging against the decor with the tank being so small. The other 2 have no scars so you be the judge.
So will these scars go away with time?

I think that they will go away eventually and I say you should keep them or give them to someone who would give them a loving home that way you know that they are getting taken care of.

They have a loving home now in a 220 gallon tank. If I do decide to part with them I will be sure they go to someone who can care for them and has a tank big enough.

That's one of my pet peeves is folks who buy fish not doing any research about how big they will be later. :irked: i had the same feelings when I was in the reptile business. That's why I expanded in to reptile rescue.

Sorry. Just a quick rant. Back on topic now.

That's great to know that they are in the hands of a person who takes care of them in a 220. My fish had battle scars in the past and it healed eventually. So, I'm pretty sure the scars on the oscar should fade.

Even if the scars don't completely disappear, it will add character to the fishs appearance. Fish are pretty resiliant though, and are constantly growing new scales, so its very possible given time it may be all but forgotten. :)

Yep, oscars are very personal. Mine would always come up to the glass and beg for food. They were very tame and I miss keeping them. They all died when my dumb heater malfunctioned.
