Im trying to hang some driftwood using plastic hooks that go on my tank but i need something that will adhere to the driftwood. The only thing i see around the house is silicone, will this work ? If not what do i need ?
I was wanting to make it as clean looking as possible. I got some eggcrate that i thought i could hang over the tank using the plastic hooks and then zip tie the driftwood to the eggcrate. The only problem is you can see the eggcrate and it doesnt look very natural LOL
from my research, silicone will not bond to plastic, or wood i think. if it were something lighter than what will be heavy water-logged wood, i'd say use super glue, but not sure if the number and surface area of contact areas between the wood and the plastic hooks will be enough to hold the wood long term with super glue. you don't want it crashing down into your tank!
I was thinking the same thing .......come home to find a piece of wood through the front of the tank, i could think of better days !
Guess i will screw them to heavy slate , thanks for the input
Some silicones will bond to wood and plastic (depends on the plastic and moisture content of the wood). DOW832 will bond to some plastics but I've never tried it on driftwood. Epoxy will bond to the wood but I've never tried it on plastics. I would suggest little screw eyes in the wood and some high strength fishing wire to hang the driftwood from. An alternative would be to make a heavy tile base that sits on the bottom of the tank with a post holding the driftwood up - have to disguise the post with some plants or something though, I don't know if that works for you.
