Has anybody kept water hyacinth plants with silver dollars? I'm about to put my silverdollars in the outdoor tank which has water hyacinth, wanted to know whether they'll totally destroy its root system.

It's tough to say, really. Some people have a little luck with certain plant species (java fern, anubias, onion plants usually) and SDs not eating them, and some people get SDs that even tear up their PLASTIC plant leaves. Granted you're more worried about roots, but you might have to experiment a bit.

+1, if your attached to the plants, dont do it. Since you aready have both, I would add a plant or two to the SD tank. Or you could place a few plants in a bucket to ensure you wont lose them all when you add the SDs.

I didnt even notice OP had both. If that's the case then totally throw one in the SD tank to test it out.

My experience with sd was they will nibble on anything and everything. If you have a thriving plant population they may grow faster than the sd will eat it. Java fern was the only plant I had success with because it grew so fast
