My Red Macro seems uninterested in his old exoskeleton. Will my snails eat it?

Yes, they will depending on the species. What snails do you have?

They are pond ramshorn snails. A small species. I don't know exactly which species, or how to tell. I have yet to be able to distinguish one species of ramshorn from the next...they all look the same!

There are two distinguished groups, Planorbidae and Marisa cornuarietis (only known species of its group, Marisa). The latter is illegal to ship around due to their voracious plant eating habits and they are part of one of the largest snail groups, Ampullaridae. Planorbids don't eat plants so you'll be fine if you have planted tanks.
