Hey guys, I'm sure many of you out there are living in an apartment along with your fish. I have a structural question..

I will be moving into an apartment on the 2nd floor and i want to bring my 110 gal, my 55 gal, and my 20 gal. Assuming they allow fish tanks, will the 2nd floor of an apartment complex hold 3 fish tanks without any conflicts?

110x8.34= 917.4 lbs
55x8.34= 458.7 lbs
20x8.34= 166.8 lbs

Without decor, equipment, and stands that is an accumulated 1542.9 lbs roughly...
Will this be a problem?

Should be fine, i lived in an old house converted into three apartments on each floor. I was ontop we had a 125, 90, 55 all in the same room.

I didn't even consider this before I put my 120 in my first floor apartment. There's about a 4mm difference in water level, suggesting an uneven floor but no major issues. The groundskeeper here reckons they're all concrete floored and will handle way more than I currently have so I could upgrade to the 220 as planned - if he's wrong the crazy Chinese lady that lives below will wake up with a hole in her ceiling and an Oscar in her bed!

Truly the only way to know is to have a engineer look...every apt building is built differently, in different times, with different materials. I had a 125, 75, 55, 40, and a 10 all running in my apt on the second floor, but idk if I would recommend it.

Hello; here is the web address of an article that talks about the issue.

My take is that the question can only be answered by someone with knowledge of structure actually having a look to see what you have and what condition it is in. A contractor? There have been posts describing damage from tanks from time to time, so it does happen. Good luck.

just watch ur water levels, make sure it doesnt change. If its sloping more and more, your floor is giving away lol.

That reassuring........lol quite terrifying.

and yes thank you for the input guys, much appreciated.

Thanks for the link as well. My questions are answered
