Hello i was wondering if this light. Can grow these corals/anemone that i have listed below.

The tank is a 20 gal standard.

Coralife S/W T-5 Aqualight Double Strip Light-24"

-Bubble Tip Anemone
-Frog Spawn Coral
-Flowerpot Coral
-Hammer Coral
-Assorted Leathers corals?

I think it can grow polyps..if i can grow them in a 8 gal high tank with 9wat attinic and daylight.

But just wondering if those corals above will grow/thrive under that lighting, if it does a seem lacking would it be possible to just move the corals higher on top of the live rock.. well besides the anemone lol

responses would be appriciated. =^_^=

the leathers and polyps would be ok. i have my corals under 50w of T8. thats apparently nowhere near enough light. 25w marine white, 25w actinic.

finger leather variant
toadstool leather
button polyps
some zoas
various mushrooms
kenya tree frag
other unknown frag (will put up a pic to id it later)

my corals are happy enough... try and tell them there isnt enough light. the toadstool has doubled in size since i got it. its sometimes 8" across, its same with the finger leather. even the kenya tree, and unknown frag have noticeably grown, ive had them a week.

for lower light stuff those will be fine. but for the LPS corals and anemone there probably wont be enough... maybe look for a cheap MH fixture instead. it wont cost too much more than that. or make one instead.

crap sorry for double posting, i kinda forgot where the edit buton was..

but any ways i was thinking another thing. =^_^=

In a standard 20 gallon tank, which is i think 24 inches in height.

What if i were to place a frog spawn (which i read is pretty hardy and easy to keep)
high above the live rocks. Maybe 5 inches below the T5 lighting, so itz almost like itz a shallow tank of 5 inches in depth.

In this picture i will try to draw where it would be placed.
lol this kidna looks like Wierd java coding lol =^_^=

This equals sign will represent 1 inch of tank height (=)

donno... cant vouch for that one... obviously the closer to a light source the brighter the light, but i dont know if the amount of lumens the light puts out would be enough, even 1" under the surface... ive always assumed
frogspawn corals tend to like medium to high lighting, and low/medium flow. the flow isnt a problem. but if there isnt enough light, there just isnt enough...

you may wanna move the low light corals closer to the surface too. my tank is 15" deep. the lowest coral is 12" from the light source. 24" is a long way down. so you would need to adjust coral placement accordingly...

ahh, simply playing around with positioning! i guese best thing to do is just try it out lol. Thank again Mr Serious Cat =^_^=

for the coral's you want in your system you'll need at least 5-6 watt's of light per gallon so you'll need a better fixture then that one. However most octocorals, and mushroom's will do fine with this lighting setup.

I asked some local fish stores and they said that if iw ere to use those coral life t5s that i would probably have to use 2 of them. total of two attinics and 2 daylights 10,000k

two of these

or another one said.. just buy one fixture.. and save money instead of having two separate fixtures.. and this is the one they recomended.. itz by current.

WHat do you guys think =^_^=

I would be more incline to this for your plan's on your tank.

Great fixture I used it on a 20 gallon high reef tank and housed successfully under the light's SPS, LPS, and a clam with great growth on the coral's in less time then usual but was real religious about calcium and alkalinity and mag. as well as weekly water changes and good flow.

ahh i got this instead!

I was gunna get the nova by current but i found out that they were gunna stop selling or producing the bulbs.. and id rather not have two coral lifes press against on top of the canopy either.. and so i got this! REally really super bright! And it looks clean and it eluminates my bathroom with a tint of ocean blue! which matches my ocean theme blue bathroom.. but nevemind the bathroom lol. ive decided to go with a bubble tip instead of the other corals.. i think mr marooon would be happier.. and the saving any corals from being irritated by the maroon. Hopefully mr maroon will stop hosting on the power head and move onto the anemone. =^_^=

but yes. The fixture was a good price!

the funny thing is that now im tempted to remake an even bigger nano reef than i already took down before this one. Cuz this light has so much potential lol. But lets see how long i can refrain from that lol. the open concept look.. looks really nice.
