I have a 55 gallon cycling now, and I was wondering if a JD, Firemouth, Severum, Festivum, and a rainbow cichlid would be compatible if there were lots of hiding places and dither fish. There would be some bristlenose plecos in there. Im also going to introduce all fish as babies so they will be used to each other. If there not compatible which fish would you take out?

sounds like a bit much for a 55 imo. I'd leave out the JD and the severum personally. the others you mentioned won't grow as large and may be able to coexist in the 55. I'd also add in some dithers. :)

It could work for now, but it is certainly true, it would be a bit much when they get large. If you do decide to keep the dempsey too, make sure you give him/her a nice cave. I have found that with many dempseys, if you give them a cave in a corner, they will often stick to it, without requesting further territory. As long as tankmates know that the cave belongs to the dempseys, things may go smoothly. I'd try it while they're small, as long as you have another tank for the JD and Severum when they hit 6+"
