The fittings are threaded CPVC, and the hose barbs are nylon. Should I just tighten them, or should I put some pvc cement on the threads? Also, it just occurred to me that CPVC stands for CHLORINATED Polyvinyl Chloride. Is there any reason not to use this for aquarium applications? I know it's safe for drinking water.

I would just use thread tape on the nylon fittings and the CPVC should be fine.

I've used CPVC in/on aquariums for many years without incident or concern...

How much pressure will be used on this line?

It would take an astronomical amount of pressure to strip the threads or untwiast the fitting...

It would take quite a darn bit of pressure to make the threaded connection leak even a little. Although a little teflon tape on the threads is very cheap and easy and will guard againt the concern...

The benefit to using threaded fittings is you do not need to use the PVC cement allowing you the freedom to dissassemble the connections at a later date. If you plan to use PVC cement then I wouldn't have used the threaded fittings...
