My young pair of GT's spawned for the second time and I have notice this evening a fair bit of fighting (locking jaws specifically).

Both male and female are showing signs of scuff marks around their mouths now. They seem tired and take breaks.

Can they do serious harm to each other?

I don't really have means of separating them either. Should I wait it out a day or two and see if things calm down a bit?

How do you not have means of separating them? All you need is a divider, you can buy diffuser panel at home depot and make your own. I believe its close to $15 for a 2x4' section.

Very nice setup! If they keep it up worst case scenario you will just have to bunch the pieces together and put up a divider. Doesnt have to split the tank in half just 1/3rd or so. That right corner would be perfect just move things to the left.

Yeah I suppose I can make it work. I will see how they are this evening when I get home from work. I know this morning was fine.

Can they do much damage to eachother? They are not very big 2.5" male and 2" female.

She goes toe to toe with him though. Very tough for her size.

Alright, I will make sure to keep a close eye.

As they grow older together and continue to spawn do you folks think this sort of behavior will continue or possibly go away?

It's it common for green terror pairs to fight?

Mine used to lip lock and fight every now and then but nothing serious ever came of it.
However your tank is a lot smaller than mine so you need to keep a close eye on things.
I would not be too quick to panic,it is normal for cichlids to behave this way during courtship/spawning.

Yeah, I have been reading up and it seems like they can be spunky and aggressive around this time. The eggs would of been laid just hours before it all took place.

Tonight I will watch closely and see how they doing.

Well good news, since I been home all evening there is no problems anymore. I guess it was just post spawning excitement. Devi is doing a fine job watching the eggs while Kai (male) is roaming the entire tank acting really chill. He gladly let's Devi have the corner with the eggs.

It's seems like just like last spawn she will tend to them herself.
