Hi guys i got myself 4 redlines but i keep geting non stop advice not to keep them in a normal fish tank and cause my friends tank just broke from them too:eek:, so i might move them to a pond but my tank is ganna be empty and i don't want to get any other fish cept snakeheads. i found out just recently that i can order some other snakehead species so im getting 3 different kinds.

1-Chevron Snakehead,Striped Snakehead (Channa striata)
2-Barca Snakehead (Channa barca)
3-Northern Snakehead (Channa argus)

so will it work out or im a ganna open a fight club??

Thanks

its always a risk introducing several Channa in same tank and no guaranties can be give , it would be trail and error , but apart from that there are a couple of problems here .

1- striata can be very aggressive with other tank mates esp Channa
2- i would not suggest you attempt to put a fish as expensive as bacra in any situation where it would get damaged never mind killed , i take your lfs give you a price on this ? , if it was less the the equivalent of £600 its not real bacra
3- you mention a normal fish tank , what size are we talking here ? as its going to have to be a large tank to house 3 fish that can get around the 3ft mark , to be honest there going to need around the same size tank as the micros

to be honest i would just stick with the micros ,see how they grow not all will reach the monster size in aquariums ,but again this would depend on tank size , although if you have the money for barca i would order a pair of these and try to breed them , if your tank is 2ft or less wide try and get some pleuros

HI,

I would never ever mix different species of channa, and in special the big species.

barca is very seldom and expensive (but in kuwait, you've probably got your own oil company to afford them ;-) )

Give them species tanks, so you can have all theire natural behaviour.

The channas you want to buy have different needs due to water temperature.
barca and especially argus need cooler to cold water.
Striata and micropeltes want it warm (they are tropical)

brucki i allways thought striata was a temperate species along with barca and argus , is it in fact a full tropical species same as micro ? dont know why i thought this and i have never personally kept one so i have no doubt your right ,but can you just confirm ( incase i ever do come accross one)

cheers col

HI,

striata are bred in tropical vietnam and thailand for food purposes.
Perhaps you mix them up with stewartii ?
These ones are from subtropocal, high altitude regions like barca, auranti,sp. assam,bleheri,..

Hi,
if you have REAL Barca in there get rid of the other fish and be very pleased with what you have. 2 of the RAREST Channas in the world!!!

DAmn thats so *ucked up I cant believe it!!:irked:

I'm holding my head in angiush at this OMG!

If you put 4 reds together there will be a fight if you are lucky there will be a pair and those two will kill the other two, you'll be left with a pair but nothing else will live in that tank. I have kept as many as 12 Barca together without any problems even pairs weren't very aggressive. Northerns do ok in groups but they are fairly easy to tell males and females so I always set them up in pairs. They would live with other fish unless they wanted to breed.
Striata's are just plane mean they will torment other fish to death if they cant kill it outright. Pairs are super mean too usually nothing can live in the tank with them.
