quick question:

my tank has some side drilled holes, near to the top that acted as the drains for the wetdry, i currently have them plugged, and 100% will not be running a wd on this system...so....

can i -----

pvc plumb the intake of an fx5 to be fed through one of the drains? given they are 2", i will reduce it to match the fx5 hosing

i am worried about flow ---- will this drain present too much flow for the fx5? or will all be ok......

i guess the obvious problem would be water level, and being sure that the cannister is turned off when water level drops for water changes...but given that isn't a problem, is this a good idea?

main reason is i want some suction at the top of the water to help with aeration and floating poop removal....

thanks for the assistance!

Theres no problem with your idea. An FX5 will take the extra flow in stride and bump up the GPH in return. I do the same thing on occasion by plumbing a powerhead into a cannister intake to "supercharge" it. (sometimes necessary with very tall stand/tank combinations or long hose runs.) Use an elbow fitting on the bulkhead and you can still use the factory strainer. (connected by a small piece of hose.)

thanks wolf,

i probably get around to it this weekend, and will take some pics...

as for the stock strainer, probably not, just some loose mesh over the inside hole....gotta maximize poop sucking ability....

Just be sure the hole is always well under the serface or you run the risk of running the FX5 dry.
