will this congicus reach full size?

here's my issue

i can get a 17" male congicus, here's some history.
: age is unsure, though the original owner has had it for a yr since 12", and it's grown to 17".

what're the chances it makes out it's 22-25" size?

i can also get the alternative, a 23" female congicus, the downside is it's twice the price of the smaller fellow. however this is a size i really like.

so what'd you think, will the 17"er be able to grow to 22+"??
 
Why not? If it has grown 5 inches last year it cant be that old... But the growth slows down a lot when they get bigger...

What i am trying to say is: It wont grow from 17 to 22 inches as fast as from 12 to 17...
 
it will in a matter of time with a lot of tank room, but like the first post; Its might take longer to grow to 22in than from 12 to 17
 
That would depend on the food you feed it, tank space and regular water change. But it won't get up to full size. Cong can get up to 39"+. In captivity maybe around 25". If you wanna grown it in no time, feed it weather loaches.
 
cool guys thanks lots. my tank's 5x3(wide)x2, i do loads of wcs but don't feed as generously...i think i will get the 17"er then huh:D
 
I'd get the 23"er, think about the amount you'll spend on food to get the 17" to that size and can you really stand to wait maybe 2 years for a poly that awsome?
 
I'm impatient, so I'd go with the bigger one. Also, this isn't that big of an issue, but think of all the money you will spend to get the smaller one bigger, which might ultimately cost more than just buying the big one. It's your choice though.

Agreed. Polypterus have fairly fast growth rate spurts from juvie till about 12"+ range or so, then slows down after that.
 
hmmm, you guys are making sense, i will see how much cash i can raise then.
