My bio media is Seachem Pond matrix and lava rock, hence the reason it is submerged.

Water will be supplied by a 500gph pump.

Should the outlet and inlet pipes be different sizes or both the same sizes. I was thinking all of it 3/4 inch id pipe.

Also, I think I posted in the wrong forum :(

you have a spray bar hooked up on the inlet side?
Thats what it looks like atleast, if so i would think it would get clogged fairly quickly when large pieces try and go through.

Maybe skip the spray and add filter socks of varying sizes Biggest micron inside the smaller micron on to a drip tray or even right above and it them drain out onto the bio

The mechanical is mostly micron pads. The spray bar I could just pull off and clean it and then push back on, no need to glue that part. I wil proabbly do that though when money becomes stable for me again.

So there are no baffles and a drain hole drilled into the bottom right? No cover I take it, since you have a spray bar on top?

Why not just get an overhead filter?
Your design look very similiar to one

This uses what I have on hand, so no shopping. It works I will have pics up this weekend, it needs a flow of 300phg or better to keep the outlet from draining the filter.

Modifications made to it : pre filter attached to the spray bar, before going to mechanical pads.

Why not just directly plump the outline at the bottom?

Matrix doesn't have to be completely submerged, it works just as well in a W/D setup
