A few years ago I picked up a free reptile cage that someone had made. It sucks for reptiles, but I figured the glass at the very least would be usable to build another cage or something. The three panes were apparently ordered for a job and were the wrong size, so the guy who made the cage got them free, then I got them free. They're roughly 24.5" x 36.5" and are more than 1/2" thick. They're not double paned glass with space in between them, but they're two layers of thinner glass sandwiched together to make it more than 1/2", and I believe they're tempered.

My thought is that it might be nice to build a tank out of them. I'm thinking the tank would be roughly 30" tall and 40" long, or I could use both panes of glass and just have a wooden strip running down the middle between them and make it 30" x 80" or so long. Front to back it could be any size, but would be at LEAST 2', because it's intended to be a tank for my gars, and probably an arowana. Do you think these panes of glass could be used to make a tank that size, or should I just use them to make a snake cage like I've been thinking?

I wouldn't trust it. Go with a snake cage.
