had some family over for dinner and someone must have been caught up in a conversation or something because our stove-top was running leaking gas WITHOUT the fire running! It was running full blast gas for at least a few hours. My room is in the back of the house and I had the door closed and I began to feel dizzy. We usually keep all the windows closed and hardly run the AC. I quickly went to the kitchen (as this has happened before from some of the children we have in our family messing around) I turned off the burners opened the windows and evacuated the house on my porch for a good 30 minutes. It was BAD really bad it felt like as I was near passing out. Question is will the fish be ok? any effects I should be looking for happening to the fish?? should I do a waterchange? unfortunately I couldnt turn off air pumps etc in time because i had to consider my saftey first. anything I should be watching for in my tanks or is there anything that may happen to the fish?

Its quite possibly a good idea you DID NOT switch anything on / off... Coz that may hve produced a spark that could have lit up your whole place...

Guess at least its a lesson learnt to better safe than sorry, as wel as to make sure to check all gas appliances are off...

Very lucky your all ok, that's the reason we changed to an electric cooker when our son was born.

Methane (natural gas) is not soluble in water in any real concentration, and the little that did get in there would evaporate nearly instantly when the room aired out. I wouldn't worry about the fish.

I would however worry about your house for the next time this happens. If you have no good way of stopping a gas leak for hours I would highly recommend switching to an electric stove. You (or a friend / family member) could have easily died.

After my first incident with carbon monoxide from leaking gas furnace from next door duplex. My kids and I were in the hospital for a day. I made sure that every level has a detector after we bought our house and I make sure to check the stove every night before calling it a night. I'm glad you and your family are okay.

If the fish were affected you likely would of saw symptoms fairly quickly, if your fish appear well; you'll probably be ok.
Canary in a coal mine type of situation;I once had a gas leak in the house that I was hardly aware of until one of my lovebirds just keeled over and died.Shortly after that my other one died and then I knew something was wrong....hope all turns out well for you and yours.
