My flame angel got beat up pretty bad by my damsel when I first got it. I took the damsel back to the LFS and the angel has since flourished and is extremely active in the tank. You can hardly tell it was ever attacked except for the dorsal spines. Will these heal over or will it always be like this? I'm going to go ahead and assume that it is a young fish as it is only like 2 inches long, if that makes any difference. Oh, it was a week ago Friday (day-before-yesterday) that the beating happened.
