I now have a 2.5 inch silver arowana. He's in a 55gal with three plecos Lg,Med and small. I have two air pumps running two heaters(83f) and one large aqua clear filter with carbon and two ceramic media bags. Will this setup be good enough to hold my Aro until I make the move for the 180? I have another smaller aqua clear filter I could use if necessary. Thanks for any advise or feed back!

Ummmmm.....how long are you keeping the arowana in the 55g? I would suggest once it hits the 8"-10" You should of have the 180g setup. That shouldnt be for like another good 3-4 months.

I was hoping to get the 180 for christmas but i will act sooner if it gets necessary. I was wondering if the filtration was good enough until or if I should add the smaller filter or change/add media. Plus im feeding him flakes and plankton. wont eat the sticks i had (ordered 9 in 1 azoo).

If you are talking about having a AC110 that's a good filter but I would suggest At least add the other small filter you have the plecos are messy on there own. And if you get an extra AC110 you can add it onto the 180 and have a piece of your filtration for the 180 allready and seeded to make cycling the new tank that much faster.

But I think as long as you get the aro out of the tank before it hits 12" MAX you'll be allright. (idk what aro growth rates are so idk how long it will take to get to 12")

What is the model of the Aqua Clear Filter? You should want a filter that can turnover your tank 7-10 times within one hour...but the more the merrier! :D

Hey thnks alot. So you think I should save the sponge in the aq110 to help cycle the 180g? If I get Something like the Fx5 filter would I still benefit from the aq110 on the 180?(media?)

An FX5 with 2xAC110s would be a great setup. LOTS of mechanical filtration in both the FX5 and the AC110. The FX5 falls short in the bio and chemical media storage but what I do is just fill all three FX5 baskets up with bio. and put any chem. you want in the AC110s so that way it is easier to get to.

But the FX5 and 2xAC110s should do just fine.

Depending on the species 7-10x turnover is good. Generally this is not true though. Small silvers don't fare very well against that kind of turnover, and more turnover would be bad.
