I want to add 2 Bluespot sunfish, 1 Black Banded sunfish, a pair of Orangethroat darters, 1 speckled madtom, 4 Flagfin shiners and 4 Golden minnows. Trying to get them all the size or close.
They will be in a 75 gal. tank, with a sump and canister filter. With driftwood, rocks and plants (mostly fake) will that work?

Thanks,

Assuming you mean golden shiner (Notemigonus crysoleucas), all are slack water fish except for the Orangethroat darters. Any darter might be food for the speckled madtom but swamp darters might be a more logical choice for the tank. All the above fish would benefit from a densely planted tank (real or fake). With a sump and canister filter (along with regular water changes) you should be able to put quite a few more fish than that in a 75 gallon.

Oh, the golden shiners will be the largest and most boisterous fish in the tank. You might want to consider a smaller fish in place of them.

Teleost,

I was thinking (Fundulus Chrysotus) Golden topminnow. I will most likely leave out the madtom then, I like and need the darters color.

Would Dollar sunfish work, or will it be to aggressive?

Thanks,

Oh,

The golden topminnows will work fine. With a 75 gallon I wouldn't worry so much about the darters being food for the madtom as I would having the orangethroats in a slackwater tank. I have other darters in slow moving water but for some reason my particular O'throats seem to perish in slow water. Could just be my local fish.

Don't get rid of the madtom on my words. It would be a nice addition to the tank. Maybe someone could advise you of a colorful slackwater darter. Swamp darters aren't very colorful as you obviously know.

Edit: I've never kept dollar but have heard they have quite an aggressive streak. From what I gather they would be incompatible.

Teleost,

Perfect thank you. Madtom will stay and as you said, I will be looking for a colorful darter (hopfully) that will thrive in slackwater. No dollar will be added.

I would keep the dollars out of the mix, i think that they would out compete the darters, banded, and blue spot sunnies for food.

every Lepomis I have ever had has been an agressive food hog that will eat anything thrown in the tank.

I have no experience with Enneacanthus but from what i hear they are very timid and will only take live or frozen food.

My bluespots will take quality dry food with glee. The blackbanded sunfish can be a little more difficult to convert but they came around as well. Both get fat on dry shrimp and earthworms from Avid Aquatics.

what kind of fish is that in your avator??? I know its a sunfish but what kind??? looks really nice with all the blue

My dollars seemed really peaceful and everything like that but last night I found one of the tetras that I had in with them all torn up and dead lol. I guess dollars aren't as peaceful as I thought. I wouldn't trust them with anything as small as you are planning.
