i did find the other threads after a lot of searching but what about all year round with no heater or chiller? what kind of fish can i keep then and what about mosquitoes?

really no one can tell me what kinda fish can survive year round where i live?

ok so i have 550gallons to work with, can anyone help?

If you are going to bury the pond your option of fish would increase. I don't know how cold it gets where you live, but I don't think most tropical fish do good in water lower then the upper 60's for very long. Goldfish of course can handle the cold and there are enough different types of goldfish (ex: shubunkin - koi looking fish) to keep them from being boring. Also, most "fish tank" fish aren't real impressive in a pond setting since all you see is the fish from the top. The color of the goldfish makes them stand out much better. About the mosquitoes....the goldfish will eat any eggs. Good luck with your pond setup!

You've got your answer. Both natives or Koi will work w/o a heater.

I would choose the first if I had to use one of those 2 pools.

ok well thank you for the help i think some goldfish and koi will work, i have a tank inside for my aro and pbass. the pond is going to be 8x8x18" ive been trying to dig out for it, its just a cheap pool but im going to put down 40mil PVC below it and the sides are a hard plastic almost feels like metal.

Unless the pond is in 100% shade, go deeper. At 18", the water temps. will swing up and down, and poss. get to warm in the summer. Goldfish are super hardy, but the warmer the water the less disolved oxygen avail.

I can do something for shade, its kind of wide open now, but It will have a good bit of water movement once the fish are larger im going to add more filtration and a fountain

well i just went outside about 30 minutes ago to dig some more and the water was in the 90s easily, but was only 5" deep. but at 2:30 the pond was then fully shaded and would be the remainder of the day
