I have on of those crappy dynex pools and since it is winter I am not using the filter. Could I use the filter as a gravel vacuum? I'm not sure if it is going to be strong enough to suck the water up the tube but I figured its worth a try. I'm also not sure if its going to filter well enough or if I should put some new sponge media in it or something?

i don't see why not
priming it might be a pain

I'm going to have to soak everything good since my pool had chlorine tablets in it but nothing is going in, only coming out so I shouldn't have too much to worry about. I just hope that it can actually pull the water up the tube, when it filtered my pool the water just kind of flowed into it downward, but it did push it back out.

can anybody suggest something to put in to replace the filter or should I just try it with the filter that it has and see what happens?

buy a new filter cartridge for it

The cart will work, as a matter of fact it will clog quickly since it works so well.

Keep the filter/pump about water level or just below, since these filters weren't made to cope with head pressure.

If you clean it out so that testing shows no chlorine, you could let the water return to the tank.

I've used these in several instances, with good results...Just wish they lasted longer.

awesome.. I rarely used my pool and half of the time it had more algae in it that chlorine anyways so I don't think I will have to worry about washing it too well haha

I foresee a new pond come spring time :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2.

yeah right.. do you know what the weather is like here? Some weeks it goes from 90 to 30.

As a matter of fact I do... I was raised just north of Detroit :D.:ROFL:

A lot of water will stabilize the temp.s day to day. And if you keep natives.. Huh..Huh... see where I'm going with this :naughty:. Where there's a will, there's a way :headbang2.

I wouldn't worry about the chlorine. Just run some water through it. I would put a foam prefilter over the filter cartridge. The prefilter will trap some gunk and increase the life of the more expensive filter cartridge.

I just use a magnum hot with a micron cartridge wrapped in foam, with the vacuum portion of a python. Works like a champ. I can vacuum the whole tank without losing a drop of water. Then I can power drain and fill the tank with a pump instead of waiting on a puny siphon to drain it.
