ok i have a 180g setup
and i usually feed my fishes dried shrimp which floats at the surface
and when ever i try to remove the left over food particles my fish go all skittish and jumpy
can i use the protein skimmer to remove the leftover food
what i have in mind is to switch on the protein skimmer after ten minutes of adding the food to the tank and then i can remove the food particles manually from the skimmer without causing much trauma to my fish
my skittish fish are 13"+ TSNs and a 13"ish jar

will this work????????

or is there a better method to remove uneaten food particles which you use
thank you for your replies in advance

A protien skimmer wont work very well on a freshwater tank...there ARE a couple of ways you make them work on a FW tank but even then they wont do much for left over food. Your fish are skittish because in nature most everything from above is trying to eat them.

What your probubly thinking of is a serface skimmer set up for either a cannister or some HOB filters. These WILL remove the left over food on the serface without disturbing the fish. They are fairly inexpencive and adaptable to a wide variaty of filter systems.

Try sticking 2 AC101's on the back of the tank.....
