Ok, so Ive decided to try and do live plants in my tank. I know the fsh I have might try and eat them, but Im willing to try it. Outside of their "nests", they dont really mess with any other rocks or fake plants.
I have a 265 (40 gallon sump with 2 x 5 gallon buckets worth of bioballs in the sump and overflows) with:
sand substrate about 5-6 inches.
2 x 24 inch aquaglo 20w T8's and one 14 inch standard fluorescent shop light running 10 hrs a day.
I was just given:
2 x 14 inch Amazon swords
1 10 inch melon sword
a handful of Moneywort
a handful of Chain Sword
a handful of Crypt Wedtii
a handful of java moss
Im hesitant about using any kind of ferts in the tank because of my fish (list in my signature), but the guy that gave them all to me said the ones he uses are fine with fish. I dont know what they are, but do you guys use them in tanks with fish? what are the best and least expensive to use?
I am hoping the amount of food I feed the fish that doesnt get eaten sometimes will be enough for the plants to eat. My nitrites are almost always 0, ammonia 0 & nitrates fluctuate between 10 & 30ppm.
Do I have enough lighting?
Thanks for any help.
