I need to up the filtration on my 100 gal acrylic tank. I am thinking of adding a cannister as it has a built in sump.

My situation is this.
The tank has a large lip around the back edge in the corner.

My question are.
1. If I buy a cannister can i use PVC or a flex hose to extend the pipes for the intake and return?
2. Or should I drill the tank to allow the pre fabricated pieces to fit (would that weaken the the support it provides)?

The sump is built into the tank. so increasing it's size is not an option. I don't want to drill the tank but saw it as a possible option. I really wanted to know if i could extend the pipes for the intake and returns.

help?

Sure, extend the pips. It's just like building your own intake/output. Not a big deal. Keep the elbows and bends to a minimum though. Good Luck

Heres a quick Paint sketch I drew.

yeah man, if i were you dont drill or cut the tank unless you really know what you are doin as you could ruin your tank. But extending the input and out put is by far the easier option. Plus the overall filtration from the sump and the canister will rock a 100gal but definately watch the bends in the hose or you will loose the filters power
