I really want to put two black aros in my 180 gallon but I've read that most aros fight in groups of less than five....does this hold true for black aros also?? Anybody successfully house a couple of blacks together without fighting??

Yes, chances are about 33% that a pair will work. You can try it as long as you have a way to separate them if need.

BTW I had 5 baby black aros together and they fought, eventually killing one. Now they are separated into pairs. One pair seems to co exist with very little fighting, the other pair I had to separate with a divider. When trying to build arowana communities you just need to be ready for just about anything.

Thanks, thats a very helpful answer. I do have a 55 gallon that I could temporarily house one in before selling if they do fight, so I think I'm going to try it. If I get two babies is there a certain age (or size) at which they might start becoming more aggressive towards eachother?

i havent tried but in my opinion blacks are peaceful not sure about with another black

If it's going to happen, they can and will be aggressive towards one another while still eggers (2-2.5"). One day one might be the aggressor the next day the other. Expect some ragged fins and tail but it really shouldn't get to be much more...however if it does as in BD's situation your gonna have to separate them and try again when they are big enough to protect themselves or part with one of them.
