I recently posted a thread asking on the legality of keeping a wimple piranha in Colorado without a permit. Since it appears I can, I was thinking of getting one. Would it be okay in a 20g long? If I had to, I could get a bigger tank, but I cannot get a tank larger than 30" long due to space. The tank was originally for a T. suvattii (a puffer), but the shop that said they had some didn't. I am now at a loss as to what to put in here. The filtration is an Ehiem 2213.

Thanks,
Ryan

One wimple piranha will be very boring. They are a schooling piranha and are shy anyway. One will be very shy. They are also known to scale fish rather than eat them whole. So if you are gettin it to see it devour fish you will be disappointed.

Nope, I am not getting it to devour fish. Ask anyone I know, they will tell you I am an oddball fanatic. Most of my fish are very "boring" by most peoples standard.

Anyways, how big of a tank would I need to house a decent size shoal (maybe 6-8 fish)? I won't be able to get a big enough tank now, but I might in the future.

they are not supposed to get longer then 5" so i would get like five (you still might end up with 4 thou)
kept in large groups in a small tank the will scale each other and more then likly die

I bought the tank recently enough that could exchange my tank for something bigger, I just can't get anything bigger than 30" long or so. The absolute biggest I can go is a 36" long tank. Would a Serrasalmus sanchezi work in a 29 or 30g?

1 wimple in a 20 long. Yes a S. Sanchezi should work for a LONG time in a 29 or 30g, although a 33 long, 40 breeder, or 55g would be best.
