Yesterday, some friends and I started off on what we though would just be a fun little road trip to visit a friend in Columbus, despite the weather report showing some snow throughout the day. Getting there was fine, and on the way back the roads seemed pretty good as well...until we found the only patch of ice on 33/161. We ended up in a deep ditch right beside an exit ramp, miraculously didn't flip (although we all braced for it as soon as we left the road) and were all fine with little damage to the car, but others weren't so lucky.
Less than 2 minutes before we slid off the road, another guy totaled his truck probably 10 yards from where we were, and everyone walked away. Right after we got out of the car and figured out what was going on, we had to dodge a third car as it slid into the ditch, and right as we were about to leave, a 4th car crossed the median and flipped into the same ditch, also totaling the car I'm sure. I don't know the condition of the people in the last car, but the police and an ambulance were already on the scene when they crashed. The whole thing took place in under 15 minutes. All-in-all it was a VERY scary night.
So anyone in an area affected by winter weather. BE CAREFUL! Even if the roads seem ok, things come up out of nowhere.
