okay I have a bunch of common gold fish about seven I kept in a 150 gallon pond. I moved them into 55 gallon in october but they look really cramped and they dirty the tank faster then I can clean it, I want to put them back in the pond for the winter, but my parents say they don't want the waterfall pump on all winter can I just put them in the pond and put one of those floating heaters in?

depends on where your actually located in Canada... The heater will use more power than it's worth to keep the fish in the pond...Just make sure you have a well cycled filter on the 55 keep up on water changes and feed less than you would if they were in the pond
How big are these guys that they look cramped in a 55?

I live in the most southern city in canada(windsor) , we border michigan.
I have one large 12 inch goldfish and the rest are about six inches.

Is the 55 all you have available?

Putting them back will be a gamble. If they are in a garage or non-heated tank you may get away w/feeding little to none for the winter.

It depends really, as long as the ice on top has a big enough hole for the gases to exchange (O2 and CO2) and it doesn't freeze too deep that they can't freely swim around, then they should be fine in the pond - goldfish are coldwater fish to begin with. A floating deicer would work.

This is my 20 gallon pond last winter

The ice was 2" thick

The biggest problem you're going to have though is accedentaly shocking your fish - because you brought them inside, so you've got to acclimate very carefully to the cold water.

Also, I kept my fountain on all winter to keep the water circulating
